English Literacy for Career and Technical Education (ELCATE)
This program provides English language instruction to limited English proficient adults that will prepare them to be successful as students in vocational/career programs and/or successful employees in the workplace. The program emphasizes the four areas necessary for proper English use in school or work: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Employability skills are also taught including job interview skills and appropriate attire. This course is divided into 3 Literacy Completion Points (LCPs). Progress through levels (LCPs) may be measured by approved standardized tests or documentation of mastery of competencies.
Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI)
The VPI program provides adult students remediation in reading, math, and language to enable them to improve their scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and meet state requirements for a certificate in their vocational program. Students also can prepare for the GED, if needed. There is no set program length. An individualized program is prescribed and students work at their own pace until they can test at level for the vocational program for which they have applied. Students use a variety of materials including computers and audio-visual equipment.
Industrial Cooperative Education – OJT (ICE)
The purpose of this course is to provide the on-the-job training component in conjunction with a job preparatory program to prepare students for employment in industrial occupations. On-the-job experiences are provided as an addition to the job preparatory program. These experiences will develop occupational competencies required for employment, or they will provide experiences that further develop the competencies acquired by the student in the in-school job preparatory program.
