Introduction to Personal Computers/Internet
Prerequisites: None
This hands-on course is designed for the novice. The topics include
hardware and software; an introduction to the Windows operating
system; primary and secondary memory including RAM, ROM, the hard
disk and USB drives; shopping for computers; computer protection and
security; using the mouse and keyboard; booting a computer; creating
and saving files; and an overview of the Internet and software
applications.
Introduction to Microsoft Windows XP
Prerequisite: Introduction to Personal Computers
This hands-on course is an introduction to the Windows operating
system. The topics that will be discussed include starting Windows;
the program manager; using the mouse; the Help feature; desktop
shortcuts; the control panel; multitasking; creating and deleting
folders; working with the Windows menu system; the desktop; working
in dialog boxes; using My Computer and the Windows Explorer; and
using the clipboard to copy and paste files.
Introduction to Microsoft Word
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course is an introduction to Microsoft’s
word-processing application, Word. Course content includes working
with the ribbon; keyboard shortcuts; entering and editing text; naming and
saving documents; opening existing Word documents; selecting text;
moving, copying, pasting and deleting text; using the Help feature;
formatting text; working with AutoCorrect; inserting special
characters; page setup and printing; using proofing tools; working
with paragraph settings; working with columns; setting tab stops;
headers and footers; sectioning documents; and bulleted and numbered
lists.
Intermediate Microsoft Word
Prerequisites: Basic Windows and Microsoft Word skills.
This hands-on course builds upon the Introduction to Microsoft Word
topics. Course content includes managing files; working with tables
and columns; working with AutoFormat and styles; working with
AutoText and macros; working with graphics and clipart; using Mail
Merge; working with envelopes and labels and working with
illustrations.
Advanced Microsoft Word
Prerequisites: Basic Windows and Microsoft Word skills.
This hands-on course offers advanced Microsoft Word topics including
sharing information with other programs such as Excel, PowerPoint,
and Access; working with Outlines and long documents; creating a
table of contents; working with footnotes and endnotes; creating
online forms; preparing forms for distribution; working with track
changes, and protecting documents from unauthorized changes.
Introduction to QuickBooks Pro
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course offers introductory skills for the novice.
Learn how your company’s finances flow through QuickBooks software.
Course content includes entering and processing checks, bills, and
payments. Set up accounts, customers, vendors, items, and jobs. Work
with inventory and invoices. Create company books from scratch.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course offers a working overview of Microsoft’s
presentation application, PowerPoint. Course content includes using
the AutoContent Wizard; PowerPoint default settings; working with
the ribbon; creating and saving files; using the Help feature; working
with existing PowerPoint files; working with slide layouts; adding
text and graphic placeholders; working in outline view; using
notes pages; working with slide masters; using cut, copy, paste, and
the clipboard; using proofing tools; working with backgrounds and
design templates; adding tables, charts, graphics and clipart;
annotating slides; working with timings, animations, sounds and
effects; printing slides; and hyperlinks.
Introduction to Microsoft Excel
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course is an introduction to Microsoft’s spreadsheet
application, Excel. Course content includes working with the ribbon;
Excel default settings; keyboard shortcuts; entering and editing
data; naming and saving documents; opening existing Excel documents;
selecting data; moving, copying, pasting and deleting data; creating
custom lists; using the Help feature; formatting labels and values;
creating and using range names; working with Excel features such as
AutoSum, Paste Function, and AutoFill; relative and absolute
references; adjusting column widths and row heights; formatting cell
contents; basic formulas and functions; comments; working with page
setup; and printing.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel
Prerequisites: Basic Windows and Microsoft Excel skills.
This hands-on course builds upon the Introduction to Microsoft Excel
topics. Course content includes managing workbooks and worksheets;
charts; freezing columns and rows; hiding data; simple macros;
working with lists; linking; sorting and filtering data; using Excel
features such as Subtotals, Consolidating and the Scenario Manager,
one- and two-input Data Tables; conditional formatting and data validation.
Advanced Microsoft Excel
Prerequisites: Basic Windows and Microsoft Excel skills.
This 12-hour, hands-on course offers advanced Microsoft Excel topics
that includes a sampling of the many function categories available;
creating tables; advanced filters and functions; creating pivot
tables; sharing workbooks; macros; and working with form commands.
Introduction to Microsoft Access
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course introduces Microsoft’s powerful database
application, Access. Course content includes an overview of
databases; the relational database concept; creating and saving an
Access database file, working with in the Access window; default Access settings; using the Help feature; working
in design view and saving Access objects; creating tables; using a
table wizard; field properties; primary key fields; input masks;
table relationships; creating and editing select and union queries;
using a query wizard; querying and sorting data; creating forms
using a wizard; adding form controls and working with their
properties; form headers and footers; setting the tab order; and
working with form designs.
Intermediate Microsoft Access
Prerequisites: Basic Windows and Microsoft Access skills.
This course builds on the Introduction to Microsoft Access topics.
Course content includes creating and working with reports; adding
report objects and working with their properties; working with
report layouts and grouping options; creating calculated fields;
report headers and footers; page setup and printing; using a report
wizard; creating and saving macros; creating command buttons on
Access objects; finding, sorting and filtering data; importing and
exporting Access data from other applications such as Excel, Word,
txt files, and DBase; sub forms; and hyperlinks
Introduction to Microsoft Outlook
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands-on course offers a working overview of Microsoft’s mail
program, Outlook. Course content includes exploring the Outlook
window and viewing options; the
Outlook Bar; creating and deleting folders; the Help feature;
e-mail; default settings; working with contacts, the inbox, the
calendar, notes, task lists and the journal; deleting and archiving
messages; creating distribution lists; the Meeting Planner; and
working with scheduling and reminders.
Introduction to Web Page Development
Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills.
This hands on course is designed for the novice. During this course
you will learn how to develop and maintain a web page using XHTML
and CSS. Course content includes working with web technologies;
XHTML and CSS; how to work with text, controlling white space and
line breaks; edit images; work with hyperlinks; color design tips,
and much more.
After completing this course, you will have the knowledge to build your own website and the understanding of when it is better to pay for a professionally developed web site.
